Day 12: Begin the Juice Fast Frenzy!

This week I’m getting juiced!

Yup! That’s 7 days of juice fasting! It has nothing to do with inebriation or steroids. I’ve been pumping myself up for this since I started Skinny 365. You kind of need to be in a frenzy about juice fasts, because the hard truth of it is that you  will be very familiar with hunger for the duration of your fast.

On the other hand, that “good clean feeling” will be your very good friend. Want to not feel fat? Juice for a week. Hubbs and I began 2012 with a 12 day with a January Juice Fast, or a juice cleanse and we had great results.

Juice fasting is a great way to reset your system. It takes about 3 days for your body to really flush itself out and start “new”. Your digestive system is only part of a very intricate network that your body uses to convert food into energy and body function. You really are what you eat, and over time your system builds up a lot of gunk. I’m tried of being gunky.

The average person has about 10 pounds of gunk just laying around into their inner piping. Gross! A juice fast is gunk’s worst enemy. It gives you nutrients in an extremely digestable and absorbable form: liquid.

While you do lose weight on a juice fast, it’s weight that you will gain back as you reintroduce solid food into your system. I plan on losing some weight this, but not a bunch.

Here are some lessons learned from the January Juice Fest

  • The first 3 days are the toughest (though I was also hopped up on vicodin and a steroids, so I don’t remember much.)
  • Some things are better to juice than others
  • We drank 3 meals of juiced fruits and vegetables per day, and drank as much water as we wanted
  • We were hungry, but we didn’t feel bad

Things that are good for juicing

We never follow a sure fire recipe for our juice meals. We do try to mix things up as much as possible, and always try to keep a high ratio of vegetables to fruit. Here is a list of the produce items that tasted the best and gave the most juice:

  • Apples
  • Oranges and other citrus
  • Cucumbers (LOTS of juice!)
  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Kale, Spinach and other leafy greens
  • Celery
  • Jicama
  • Peaches
  • Nectarines
  • Berries
  • NOT Broccoli
  • NEVER Broccoli
